Dead Plant is the common name given to Euphorbia Platyclada. This winter dormant plant is a native of Madagascar and belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family. With heart-shaped leaves and small flowers, the succulent can grow about 20 inches.
Growth Rate
Euphorbia Platyclada is an unconventional-looking plant that is relatively fast-growing. Moreover, the succulent also lasts longer than most other houseplants.
Flowering
The dead plant grows actively from spring to fall season. During this time, you will see beautiful orange-gold to brown Euphorbia platyclada flowers blooming.
Watering and Feeding
The right way to water is to make sure the top 2 inches of the soil are never dry. If it is, water the plant. The best time for watering dead plants is in the morning. While not necessary, You can add a little bit of organic fertilizer or compost to a young plant so that it grows healthily.
Soil
Mix the sand mix with a little bit of perlite. If you add perlite, make sure that your potting soil and regular sand are mixed 50-50. Otherwise, go for a regular store-bought potting mix.
Hardiness
If you are looking for the best case scenario for your Euphorbia Platyclada, keep it in a hardiness zone of 9a to 11b and remember its frost tolerance of -6.7°C.
Light
Give the succulent as much bright and direct light as you can, and see it thrive. They might need protection from the afternoon sun depending on how strong the sun in your region is.
Propagation
You can increase your collection of this succulent through seeding or stem cuttings. Seeding is uncommon Euphorbia platyclada propagation method since it is difficult for the seeds to germinate.
Keep in mind that this is a plant that only enthusiasts and collectors can truly appreciate; its beauty is in its uniqueness, not in what is traditionally expected of house plants.
